Women deserve more than a 6 week “all clear” from their doctor. They deserve education and individualised support on how to recover and how to become stronger than ever without having to settle for pads and pain. I do what I do so women aren’t left asking, “why did no one tell me?”
I have identified as an athlete my entire life. I studied Exercise & Sport Science at University in America and played lacrosse competitively for many years after. When it came to becoming a mother, to be honest, I never even considered how much the journey would affect me - I had always been fit and from what I read, being fit = easy birth and recovery.
How wrong I was.
Motherhood hit me hard - physically and mentally.
After the birth of my first son, I suffered with postnatal anxiety and was left with pelvic organ prolapse & chronic back pain.
It wasn't until I was in the trenches, that I realised how underserved women are during this season of life. When I tried to better understand how to navigate my own recovery, I was left with extremes - lots of "don't do x, y & z" and to the other end of the spectrum, "just do what you've always done".
Even as someone who had worked in the rehab world for nearly 10 years, the wide spectrum of information was so overwhelming.
I decided to initially take some courses to help me navigate my own recovery journey, but instead became hooked.
One course, turned into another and I haven't stopped since.
Many courses and three babies later and I am finally becoming the coach that I desperately needed when my motherhood journey began.
